PlayStation Classics Now Unplayable On PS3 & Vita As Games Begin Expiring For Many Players
Sony recently announced a own version of the “Game Pass” for PlayStation and promised to access players in a selected tariff PS1 – , PS2 – , PSP – and PS3 title to be granted. This can be a nice offer for such a nostalgic. Meanwhile, currently owners have a PS3 and PS VITA problems to access their digital purchases. On some games, a strange expiration date has appeared that the download of various purchased classic titles prevents.

The Twitter user “Christopher Foose” is stumbled over a strange phenomenon in the PS-Store of his PS3 and PS Vita. When he wanted to download the role-play classic Chrono Cross from Square, the Store menu indicated that the game expired on December 31, 1969 and refused to download. Foot explained in his long tweet that the problem occurred after the new download of the game and he can not play it now on PS3 and PS Vita.

After the publication of his problem, it became clear that he is not the only one with such a message and that more games are affected. Even the GameShub Editor Edmond Tran could not play Chrono Cross on the PS3 due to the 52-year-old expiration date. And though Tran says he could still play the classic on his PS Vita, he could not find the entry in PS Vita Store, which is a sign that Sony may have removed him.

Other users on Reddit and Twitter also reported the problem at Rune Factory Oceans , Chrono Trigger , Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition , GEX: Enter the Gecko , Final Fantasy 6 & 9 and some even with their entire digital library.

No solution so far in sight

More and more users reported in different threads and contributions and repeatedly described the same problem. Some tried to reset their consoles to the factory settings or to subscribe PS Plus and subscribe again and restore their game licenses. All this had no success so far. As the Verge reported, played PlayStation (Buy Now 99.99 €) has not yet been expressed to this problem or responded to the request of the online magazine.
